summer

Since we are not taking our official summer vacation until after September, and I have been itching for a summer vacation that includes the beach...we packed the car this morning and headed to the beach. While it wasn't the ocean, there was still plenty of sand, sun screen, snacks, sun and fun. We found a little gem not too far from home, but far enough.

This past week Liam has been extremely afraid of the bath tub when it is" bub-bub" time. We are not sure what the reason behind this is or how long it is going to last. He will stand and shower, but sitting in the water, not so much.  So I was curious to see how he would react to the beach. Here are the results in photos:

he loved it...

and wanted "more & more" (his words)

fluffy clouds
And when it came to leave, his little heart broke and tears fell down his cheeks. As soon as we were on the road, he was out. We took the long way home.

And when it came to bath time tonight, he was in love again. I suppose tomorrow night will be another story.

recipe

My recipe for a perfect Saturday morning:

1. A snuggle with Andrew and Liam (and Liam's entourage, our course)
2. A long exploration of the neighborhood with Olive
3. Homemade blueberry muffins straight from the oven.

All mornings should be this easy.

flash friday

In honor of Ms. Olive's 5th birthday. While some most days she makes me crazy, I could not ask for a more sweet, gentle, kind, understanding and loving dog. Happy Birthday, Olive! Can't wait to see how the next five years treat you.

warrior dash

Holy crap! The Warrior Dash is less than 3 weeks away! I am looking forward to the petrifying plunge and my warrior helmet...oh and surviving.

See you in the mud pit!

kettle bell pt.2

So this is my last week of kettle bell. Between life and work I just can not make it to the classes this week. So I thought I would share what the past four weeks of kettle bell has done for me:

1. I have gained 5lbs. (sigh).  I am hopeful that this is muscle and not because of that bowl of ice cream.

2. I lost a total of 4 inches!  Yes, four inches in four weeks.  Two from the thunder thighs, one from my upper arms and one from my waist.

3.  I also gained a better idea of how far I can push myself, what my limits are (or are not) and  how to do a plank for 60secs (aka torture!).

I am really happy with the results. Even though I put on some pounds, I lost inches...I put on a pair of jeans and went to hold my breath as I zippered them and realized I didn't need to hold my breath. They zippered as is. I think I will do another 5 week session once life settles down a bit.
So if you ever have the opportunity to try out kettle bells, do so! You will sweat, you will hurt, you will want to cry. You will be happy.

thankful for tuesday

Today I am thankful for:

1. Having the skills (at least for this moment) to successfully sprint across the parking lot at work, in heels, in a torrential down pour without an umbrella and without any twisted ankles.

2. being a mom.

3. knowing that in 2 months we will be on vacation.

who is this?

Who is this little boy? And when did he go from being a little peanut to a little boy?

These are from our "photo shoot" the other night. Liam helped me water the flowers and then I asked him if he wanted his photo taken. He sat down and said "cheese". I took that as a yes. This is the end result of a long day at daycare, playing outside, playing in the water and having fun.

Missing: chest hair.

And where did this little nugget go?

blues

Blues aka blue berries. Liam's favorite fruit at the moment. Liam would eat blues all day long if allowed. Add a little whipped cream and the kid is.in.heaven. Here is Liam, post blues with his $3.99 sneakers, that  I think go lovely with his diaper and compliment the blues goatee.

flash friday

Here is a little something I worked on this week. Liam really enjoys
looking at his photo album,
but he also likes to take
the pictures out- which
means the photos have
been through the ringer.
I hope this book will
prevent any more photo injuries.
Can't wait for it to arrive!

kettlebell

I am in  my second week of kettle hell bell. It is going well. Last week I had a very hard time walking and bending over. My legs were killing me, actually everything was killing me. This week I feel better, stronger and more confident. These guys above are my new friends and I must be honest, they intimate the hell out of me. I leave that hour workout sweating, face all red and knowing I pushed myself well beyond what I am use to.  I took my measurements last week and I won't take them again until after the 5 weeks are up. I am hoping to lose some inches, and if not, at least I will have some upper body strength.. 5 weeks until the Warrior Dash!

chocolate milk

I am home today with Liam. There is a week lapse from when daycare #3 ended and daycare #4 begins. I really enjoy being home with him. I felt bad for most of the morning, as all Liam kept saying was "dada??daaaadaaaa!!!". So I had to pull out the big guns today- well at least try to.

Liam and I went to visit daycare #4 today. It is ran very similar to a real school. I like that and I don't like that. He seemed to warm right up to his new friends. We did go when it was gym time and then water play time. So how could a kid not enjoy that. I think he had fun...the whole ride back home in his wet clothes he chanted "happy, happy, happy".

I thought because he was a great little guy during our grocery shopping adventure (minus the mini melt down over not being able to eat the blueberries and then the tomatoes and then the bananas and then the apples) and doing so well at the new daycare I would share some of my chocolate milk with him. The kid does not like chocolate milk. He drank it down, make an awful face and gave me his cup back.  Hopefully the sprinkler park will make up for it this afternoon.

fort ricky

We ventured to Fort Ricky on Sunday. It was a fun time. I think my parents had the most fun...watching Liam take it all in. Well there wasn't a whole lot to take in, but just enough for Liam. We did see the oldest spider monkey in the world...her name is Gummy and she was born in (approx.) 1962.  Her daughter and granddaughter also live with her at Fort Ricky. Pretty neat stuff for little Fort Ricky.

The weekend. It went by fast. We were busy. It was fun. I have a ton of photos to share. But I thought I would just post a couple of my favorites for now and share the rest throughout the week.
