ashes

We made it to Ash Wednesday Service last night. We questioned whether or not to go as Liam was in a "drop to the floor, kicking and crying" kind of mood. But we chanced it and of course, it turned out well. On the way to church we gave Liam a little pep talk to get him ready for church, because it has been a while.

After the ashes there was a bit of silence and this is how my silence was filled:

Liam: "what dat?" (pointing to my forehead)
Me: "Ashes"
Liam "Oh, ASSES! Daddy got ASSES too?"
Me: "Yes, Liam, ashes. Daddy has ashes too and so do you. Ashes."
Liam: "Ohhhh I got ASSES?"
Me: "Yes, honey, you have ashes too."

Oh lord!

flash friday

I realized the other day I really have not taken a photo in over a month (with my camera- the phone cam doesn't count). And that made me a bit sad. I don't have any photos from this week. I didn't even take one of Liam on vday in his cute sweater vest & oxford.  Maybe I will have some next week. I can share what our week has been like in words...
We took some time on Saturday and went up to Saratoga. I surprised the guys with a lunch for V-day and we got to wander through G. Willikers without spending any money. Believe me we tried to spend some money, but there just wasn't anything we thought Liam absolutely needed or anything he thought he absolutely needed)... And it was just a good, fun, simple day. Sunday we enjoyed a morning play date with the Sanders. It has been so much fun to watch Dylan grow and it is fun to remember what life was like when Liam was his age. It seems like that was so long ago, but really it was only eight months ago. Tuesday I rode into work with a car that was smoking like a Cheech & Chong movie. So that went into the shop, but the good thing is that Andrew picked me up and we headed over to Liam's daycare early. We crashed his Vday party. Toddlers can really throw it down. & then we enjoyed a vday dinner from one of our favorite places.
The rest of the week has sort of been a blur...Andrew has been feeling awful all week. Maybe a bad cold. Maybe the flu. But he has been pushing through it, taking care of us, taking care of Olive and just being absolutely fantastic (as usual). Liam has pink eye...five kids and a parent at daycare had it and now Liam makes kid 6.  Since my car has been in the shop most of the week, we have been car pooling, which is really nice. A lot of other stuff has been going on too,  but I will save that for another time. I think this post is long enough.
Happy Weekend!

baby blues

Me: Liam, do you have crusty eyes?
Liam: No! I got blue eyes.
Me: LOL

a little later

Me: Liam, do you have pink eye?
Liam: No! I got blue eyes!!!

So now I am waiting for him to wake up to see if the chamomile helped or if we will be making a trip to the pediatrician today.

I have a little confession. I may be a bit obsessed with Pinterest. I signed up for it, rather requested an invite to join it, a few months back. I never really used it or really understood it. But recently, I have used it (a lot) and have a better idea of what to use it for & how to use it. And I love it. It provides great ideas (i.e. the valentines I made for Liam's class), lets you live in fantasy for a bit (i.e. my next house board) and awesome recipes ( salad in a mason jar- genius!). Plus you can follow your friends or have them follow you so if they re-pin something they like you can see it and may even want to re-pin it for yourself. Check it out, if you haven't already and follow me if you would like:

dry

Since becoming a mom, I have found myself getting exciting over things that I probably thought were lame pre-Liam. It is almost as if your excitement level goes on steroids after becoming a parent.

The latest excitement in our home is Liam using the potty. This is big time stuff. He has been sitting and using the potty on & off, or when he felt like it since last summer. Most of the time he liked to sit on the potty and just read his books and he didn't make the connection. He still likes to read on the potty, but now he is taking care of business, too. He refuses to wear diapers (he will consent to a pair of pull ups at bedtime). I am sure there will still be accidents, but that is to be expected.

This is amazing for a few different reasons : he is gaining more independence, he is so proud, he is so excited about wearing his Toy Story under-roos, he is growing up, I am spending less money on diapers, I don't have to change diapers, hearing Liam shout "yeah boy!!!" when there is success on the potty, and I am sure I could go on & on...

Liam has reached another milestone. Which in turn means Andrew and I have also reached another parenting milestone. high fives all around!

hello? winter?

We have been waiting since November to get a snow fall that will allow us to construct a "frosty". No such luck, yet. This is what we have been given so far:

There was a lot of snow at my parents' house, but it wasn't the right type of snow to build a frosty. And not to mention that it was freezing out that day. Brrrr!

We finally got a bit of snow at our house. Barely enough to cover the grass. But enough to plow through on his sled, which he hardly fit into. He loved it. Again it was so cold that day- when we had to come into the house his tears froze up on his eye lashes.
And this is how we welcomed the first day of February. Upstate New York in the middle of winter.
